1. Introduction
The Netherlands played a major role in establishing the New York Convention (NYC) in 1958. The legendary Dutch Professor Pieter Sanders is generally considered one of the Convention’s Founding Fathers as he devised the structure and drafted the key provisions at the May-June 1958 Conference held at the United Nations in New York. The Netherlands ratified the Convention in 1963. A decade later, the Netherlands Supreme Court (NSC) had the first opportunity to interpret the NYC.
